Before you begin to work with your new witch’s tools you have to cleanse and consecrate them first. This is to remove any energy they may have picked up while sitting on the shelf in the store or waiting for you to find them in nature.
You will need to light some candles and have incense burning, as well as water and salt at your altar. Casting your circle, place your tools one at a time on either your pentacle or a plate of salt. Touch the tool with your projective hand and tell the God and Goddess that you are consecrating this tool to cleanse and purify it so that you may work with it in your circle. Visualize your pure energy going into the tool and feel the negative energy leave it and fall into the earth.
Next, take the tool and sprinkle a bit of salt on it; pass it through the flame of your candle and the smoke of your incense and last sprinkle a bit of water on it. Call upon the Spirits of the Elements to consecrate your tools
Once they are consecrated you do not need to redo that however, I do recommend that you cleanse them once or twice a year. They need to be recharged in order to continue working correctly. If you have a ritual that was particularly hard or full of negativity you can cleanse them after that.
As with anything you have and use, your “witches’ tools” have to be cleaned on a regular basis. I’m not talking about dusting them once a week; I am talking about cleaning them on a more spiritual level. Stop for a minute and think about the tools and what you are actually doing with them. You are moving energy around, dispersing negativity, conjuring up emotions, etc. All of these things get trapped inside of your tools and will collect over time. After awhile your tools will not work properly, like your car if you did not change the oil and filters regularly.
